Project Based Learning at its Best: Our Titanic Newspapers
I have been teaching the disaster unit, which culminates with our study of Titanic, for years with good reason. It's rare to to find a topic that holds interest and engages students for five solid weeks. In that time, students practiced informational reading skills, note-taking, public speaking and interviewing skills. They wrote summaries, interviews and timelines and had to put all of their information together with a great del of decision-making. They were even completely responsible for the hallway display in the best show of teamwork I have seen all year.
