Interesting Facts About Morley and SandersSanders was purchased by Morley Brands, LLC in 2002.
Sanders was one of the first companies in Detroit to use electric motors. When the motor broke, a young mechanic named Henry Ford was sent to fix it. The motor worked well after his tinkering. In the late 1950's, Sanders famous dessert toppings were bottled in mason-style jars. The four original flavors were milk chocolate fudge, Swiss chocolate fudge, bittersweet chocolate fudge and caramel butterscotch. Sanders has been credited for creating Sweetest Day to promote candy sales, but the holiday tradition actually traces back to Cleveland candy maker who gave chocolates and candies to orphans and disadvantaged people. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone the same year Sanders was founded. His invention wasn't introduced in Michigan for another two years. Located on Woodward Avenue, Sanders Pavilion of Sweets became the center of Detroit's social and political life--a favorite rendezvous of the after-theater crowd and the Detroit Baseball Club.Today there are four Sander's stores in metro Detroit.
