Hello Third Graders!

I'm so happy to have you in my class this year! Third grade is such an exciting time. I can promise you will learn so much by next June. I already have lots of fun and interesting lessons, activities and projects planned for us during the upcoming school year. Some of my favorite things we do each year include learning about the Titanic disaster, research projects, touring the United States' regions, and of course, great field trips! In third grade your reading and writing skills will get better and better, plus you will learn cursive handwriting and memorize your multiplication and division facts! You will also be using your iPad at home and in school every single day!

Here is your first bit of third grade homework! (Can you believe you have a teacher who would give you homework before school even starts??) I would like you to write a letter to me introducing yourself and bring it with you on the first day of school. Here are six simple steps to follow:

Hello to My Favorite Third Graders!
I'm so happy to have you in my class this year! Third grade is such an exciting time. I can promise you will learn so much by next June. I already have lots of fun and interesting lessons, activities and projects planned for us during the upcoming school year. Some of my favorite things we do each year include learning about the Titanic disaster, research projects, touring the United States' regions, amazing science experiments and of course, great field trips! In third grade your reading and writing skills will get better and better, plus you will learn cursive handwriting and memorize your multiplication and division facts! You will also be using your new iPad in school every single day!

Here is your first bit of third grade homework! (Can you believe you have a teacher who would give you homework before school even starts??) I would like you to write a letter to me introducing yourself and bring it with you on the first day of school or when you come to the Meet and Greet. Here are some simple steps to follow:
  1. Start with a greeting like Dear Mrs. Connell,
  2. In the first section, tell me about yourself. How old are you? Who is in your family? Do you have any pets?
  3. Skip a line and tell me the ONE most important thing I should know about you as a student.
  4. Skip another line to make your third paragraph, and tell me what you did this summer that was FUN! Did you go anywhere, play with friends, read any good books?
  5. Our theme this year is Super Heroes!  You don’t have to wear a cape to have special powers. Maybe you’re kind, smart, funny or a great musician or soccer player. What is your Super Power?  What would your super hero name be? (Spiderman is taken!)
  6. In the last paragraph, ask me any questions you have about me or third grade.
  7. End your letter with a closing and sign your name. For example, Your Student, Justin Case

You can go to our class website www.geniaconnell.com  and see my sample letter to you!
Enjoy every last moment of your vacation. I hope it has been a fantastic summer for you and your family. I can hardly wait to meet you and find out all about you.
                                                                                                See you soon!

Looking forward to seeing you soon! Hugs and Smiles, Mrs.Connell
